Willie Neal Johnson’s funeral took place at the Harvey Hall Convention Center in Tyler, Texas. Johnson died of a stroke on Jan. 10, 2001. He was a gospel singer.
Johnson, who was born in 1935, began singing gospel music as a child. He performed with the Gospel Keynotes group, which received a Grammy nomination. The group later changed its name to the New Keynotes. Their songs “I’m Yours, Lord” and “Lord, Take Us Through” were hits. The group received inductions into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the American Gospel Quartet Hall of Fame.
Johnson’s wife and eight children survived him.
