What Is the Week of Peace in the Igbo Culture?

The Week of Peace is celebrated in the Igbo culture as a means of expressing gratitude and humility, as well as teaching people to be peaceful. It was originally created to pay tribute to Ani, who is the Earth mother goddess.

The ancient religion of this region in Africa is known as Odinani, named after the god. However, there are many deities that the Igbo people pray to and worship. These days, there are a great deal of people within the Igbo culture who have become Christian and Jewish. This has not diminished the importance of this rather pagan tradition.
