How Many Super Target Locations Are There?
As of 2014, 239 SuperTarget stores are in operation nationwide. There are also 1,683 regular Target stores. Together, these stores contain 1,519 pharmacies, 325 optical centers, 186 portrait studios and 28 health clinics. California has the greatest number of locations with 236 Target and SuperTarget stores.
A SuperTarget is a large store that has Target fashions, home decor products and groceries. SuperTarget has a full line of grocery items, including chocolate chips, potato chips, fruit snacks and other basics. This line uses the brand Market Pantry, and these items are often priced lower than brand name products. The grocery store at a SuperTarget also has a bakery, a deli and a butcher.
The other type of Target store is a general merchandise store. These single-level stores feature general merchandise as well as a smaller selection of groceries. Many general merchandise Target stores also have a cafe, pharmacy and photo-processing center. On average, SuperTarget locations are nearly 50,000 square feet larger than the general merchandise stores.
The first Target store was opened in Roseville, Minn., in 1962. The company is a big box discount store, and it offers fashion-forward clothing and merchandise at discount prices, and it prides itself on offering a pleasant shopping environment for all of its guests.
