Why Did Kyle Petty Get a Divorce?
Retired legendary NASCAR race car driver and co-host for “NASCAR America” Kyle Petty and wife Pattie separated in 2012 primarily due to the stress resulting from their 19-year-old son Adam’s death in 2000. Pattie Petty has said that they have no intention of divorcing.
The Pettys married on Feb. 4, 1979, a few days before Kyle won the Talladega 500 at age 19, the youngest driver ever to do so. The couple have two other grown children: Austin Kemp born in 1982, and Montgomery Lee born in 1985. In 2011, Pattie announced that she suffers from Parkinson’s disease. Kyle comes from a family of famous NASCAR race drivers, being the son of seven-time Daytona 500 winner Richard Petty and grandson of three-time NASCAR champ Lee Petty.
