Academic achievement refers to a student’s success in meeting short- or long-term goals in education. In the big picture, academic achievement means completing high school or earning a college degree. In a given semester, high academic achievement may mean a student is on the honor roll.
Academic achievement may also refer to a person’s strong performance in a given academic arena. A student who earns good grades or awards in science has achieved in the academic field of science. Education associations and schools monitor the overall level of student academic achievement to decide what, if any, changes need to be made in the educational system.
