Carpet mushrooms are a type of mushroom that grows indoors when fungus and mold are present. This occurs when conditions are moist and cool.
Carpet mushrooms also can form in areas with heavy rainfall. Mushroom spores can fall off of the mushroom, causing new fungus to grow. If carpet mushrooms are present, carpeting and flooring need to be removed. The areas need to be thoroughly treated for mold and fungus.
Steam cleaning carpets and regular cleaning can aid in the prevention of fungus growth inside the home. Mold and fungus can present health issues for those with asthma and lung problems if left untreated.
