Where Can Veterans Get Free Cars?
As of 2015, Veterans with service-connected disabilities may be eligible for a one-time automobile allowance payment from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the purchase of a car. Charity organizations, such as Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes, also assist veterans with vehicle expenses.
The VA’s automobile allowance is available to veterans who have a service-connected loss of use of at least one of their hands or feet, permanent visual impairment in both eyes, a severe burn injury or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS. Only one grant is available per veteran and it is paid directly to the seller of the automobile. As of April 2015, the maximum grant amount is $20,114.34.
Some charity organizations that assist veterans with various vehicle expenses are Unmet Needs of Kansas City and Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes of New York.
