As of 2015, there is no known movie about “Bud, Not Buddy.” However, the book has been modeled into multiple theatre productions around the U.S.
“Bud, Not Buddy” is a children’s story that was written by Christopher Paul Curtis in 1999 and won the Newbery Medal for excellence in American children’s literature. The story takes place in 1936, centering around an African-American 10-year old boy named Bud living in the Depression era who grows up in a Flint, Michigan, orphanage. He runs away and goes on a journey to try to find his father, and he finds a group of jazz musicians and a feeling of home.
The story has been modeled and performed in a variety of theatres, such as Chicago Children’s Theatre, Flint Youth Theatre and the Ruth Page Center For Arts in Chicago. It was originally adapted for the theatre by Reginald Andre Jackson in Fremont, California.
