What Is Barack Obama Famous For?

Barack Obama is famous for becoming the first African-American president of the United States. Obama is the 44th president of the United States, and his presidency is recognized for health care reform and economic stimulus legislation. Obama initially received notice for his well-delivered speech during the 2004 Democratic National Convention, at which point many Americans became familiar with him and started following his career.

Obama became internationally famous after winning the 2008 presidential election in the United States. He was elected for a second term in 2012 after defeating Republican candidate Mitt Romney. Previously, Obama served three terms in the Senate from 1997 until 2004. Although he ran for the House of Representatives in 2000, he was defeated. Before gaining national recognition as a senator from Illinois, he was a civil rights lawyer and professor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago. Obama is famous around the world for his attempts to implement policy changes in relation to the economic crisis, political injustice and health care.

Obama is also famous as an author and vocal artist. In 2009, he made $5.5 million from writing books. In 2006, Obama won a Grammy for his voice work in “Dreams From My Father,” a popular audio book version of his best-selling autobiography.
