What Is 10 to the Fourth Power?

The number 10 to the fourth power is 10,000. To raise 10 to the fourth power means multiplying 10 times 10 times 10 times 10.

In the expression 10^4, 10 is the base and four is the exponent. Whenever 10 is the base, the expression is quickly simplified by writing a one followed by the number of zeros named by the exponent. In the above example, 10^4 is written as one followed by four zeros, or 10,000. The expression 10^2 power is written as one followed by two zeros, or 100, and 10^3 is written as one followed by three zeros, or 1,000.
