What Color Eyes Do People With Albinism Have?
People with albinism can have hazel-, brown- or blue-colored eyes and sometimes have eyes that are reddish or violet in color. There is a common misconception that all people with albinism have red eyes, which is only true in some cases. While it is possible for someone with albinism to have red eyes, most people with albinism actually have blue eyes.
People with albinism do not produce enough of a pigment called melanin, which results in very little pigment in their hair, eyes and skin. Because they do not have enough melanin, people with albinism always suffer from vision problems that cannot be corrected with eyeglasses. Some individuals with albinism can see well enough to function in daily life or drive a car, while many have such poor vision that they are legally blind.
