What Is a Female Jaguar Called?
The female jaguar is called a female jaguar. There is no name that defines her, unlike her lioness and tigress counterparts. Jaguars are the largest cats in the Western hemisphere.
The female jaguar usually gives birth to one to four cubs, which are helpless and blind when they are born. She takes care of them for up to two years defending them from predators including their own father. The females and males only live together during the mating and pregnancy seasons, which can be for up to four years. The male teaches them how to defend themselves and find food and shelter, whereas the female suckles them to help them keep up their strength during this training. The cubs will hunt with their mother, learning from her until they are 2 years old.
