Baby hamsters are known as pups, and they are born without any hair or teeth. They develop teeth and begin to grow hair when they are between 11 and 14 days old, and their eyes open when they are about 14 days old.
Mother hamsters may give birth to as many as 24 pups in a single litter. The pups nurse from the mother until they are between 3 and 4 weeks old, depending on the breed. At about 2 weeks of age, they begin eating soft, solid foods in addition to their mother’s milk, and at 3 weeks of age, they resemble small adult hamsters in appearance.
