Who Invented the Newspaper?

The first known newspaper was the Roman Acta Diurna, published on orders from Julius Caesar in 59 B.C. It is unknown who physically made the papers. Caesar wanted to inform the public about important social and political happenings, as well as upcoming events.
The newspaper as we know it started with the invention of the printing press. Europe, and Germany in particular, are credited with publishing the first modern newspaper, called “Relation,” in 1605. Belgium followed next with “Nieuwe Tijdingen” in 1616. France printed “Gazette” in 1631, and England printed “The London Gazette” in 1665, which is still in publication as a court journal.
