Every state in the United States has an airport. Delaware is the only state without a primary airport as of September 2015, although it has several small, local airports, and Frontier Airlines operated a commercial passenger service from the state’s Wilmington Airport between July 2013 and June 2015.
Texas has the highest number of airports, with 1,982 listed on GlobalAir.com, followed by California with 910 airports and Florida with 858. The term “airport” includes heliports, military air bases and sea plane bases. Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airports are the busiest U.S. airports in terms of the number of flight operations and the passenger count.
