What Are Some Peninsulas of the United States?
Some major peninsulas in the United States are the Florida Peninsula, Alaska Peninsula, Cape May Peninsula and Rockaway Peninsula. Peninsulas along the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia include Middle Peninsula, Northern Neck and Virginia Peninsula.
There are two large peninsulas in Michigan: the Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula. Both are comprised of many smaller peninsulas. The Lower Peninsula is the mitten-shaped portion of the state, and the Upper Peninsula is the landform north of it.
Cape Cod in Massachusetts is sometimes considered a peninsula. The region known as the Florida Panhandle is also a peninsula. Smaller peninsulas located on the larger Florida peninsulas include Fairpoint Peninsula, Pinellas Peninsula, Cape Sable and the Interbay Peninsula, which holds part of Tampa leading into the Tampa Bay. The Olympic Peninsula is located near Mount Olympus in the state of Washington.
California has many peninsulas, including Bay Farm Island, on which Oakland International Airport is located. Marin County in California is a peninsula leading into the San Francisco Bay. Palos Verdes Peninsula is in Los Angeles, and Point Dume is in Malibu. Point Loma is in San Diego and Balboa Peninsula is in Newport Beach. Delmarva Peninsula, St. Mary’s Peninsula and Calvert Peninsula are all part of Maryland.
